Thesetofpicturespresentadistinguishablecontrastoftheroleoftheautomobileovertime:acenturyago,peoplecelebratedtheinventionofsuchrapidequipmentfortransportation,whichcouldtakeustowhereverwewant.Yetnow,particularlyinurbanareas,theautomobileismoreofatroubleasitsabundanceresultsinfrequenttrafficjams.Driversinthesecondpictureevenfallasleepwhentrappedinthis“disaster”.

TrafficjamshavelongbeenaproblemthatpreoccupiesmanymetropolitancitiessuchasNewYork,Tokyo,andBeijing.Theharmandlosstheycostareincalculable.Firstandforemost,theywasteahugeamountofpeople’stimepassedwaitingidlyintheircars.Secondly,carsintrafficjamsproducemoreexhaustthatexacerbatesairpollution.Mostimportantly,aseveretrafficjammightresultsinthedysfunctionofawholecity,whichcanaffectresidents’lifeaswellasbusinessesandindustries.

堵车在很多大城市中是一个困扰人们很久的问题，比如在纽约、东京和北京。它造成的损失是无法估量的。首先，堵车使人们无聊地在车中等待，浪费了大量宝贵时间。其次，堵车时汽车产生了更多的废气，进一步加剧了空气污染。最重要的是，严重的堵车事件会导致整个城市的功能瘫痪，影响居民的正常生活和工商业的正常进行。

我认为，努力降低堵车发生的频率是我们的一项紧急任务。第一步措施就是要改变人们的生活方式，并从根本上减弱汽车在我们的生活中的重要作用。政府还要采取有效的措施来促进市民利用公共交通工具，如通过降低价格、改进相关设施等。总的来说，减少堵车可以大大改进城市中的生活质量。
